MB may have some views on this but weather and artillery performance may be beside the point at Teutoburg. I wonder about the context of bolt finds at Kalkreise. Surely a running ambush is no place for machine-gun emplacements?


I agree. For the most part, the artillery was wiped out on the first day at Teutoburg. But Harzhorn appears to have been a longer and less mobile engagement, something reflected in the number of bolt finds.
