How odd to have a whole hoard - and such a large one - with all the coins minted in such a brief period - 3 or 4 years. Makes one wonder if this is the contents of an official paychest. I shall be re-reading Antiochus Strategus. Thank you for your most interesting blog.

Thanks for the comment. I suspect that you are right and that the money had some form of official function, especially given that it was found in a large building.
