I started this blog in January last year as an experiment. I had just started writing The Last Roman and liked the idea of an electronic commonplace book where I could keep track of ideas and sites – both electronic and archaeological. I had not expected it to be quite so much fun or so thought provoking.
But the time has come for me to put down my pen. I intend to return, though not in the short term.
Bread and Circuses will remain online as a (hopefully) useful resource and I may post occasionally. The Last Pagan is coming out in paperback next year in the US, published by Inner Traditions; Sutton is bringing out a revised paperback of Rome's Greatest Defeat some time in the Spring; and I am in the middle of finishing off a chapter on Arminius for a rather exciting book edited by Andrew Roberts, due to be published by Quercus at some point next year.
Ave atque vale.
